The "On top of the World with me" project, a journey through the largest mountains on Earth, from Kilimanjaro (5895 m) passing through Aconcagua (6 961 m) to finish the eighth highest mountain in the world, Manaslu (8 163 m)
Mi chiamo Nunzio Bruno, ho 42 anni e sono una guida escursionistica. Vivo a Messina ma ho girato il mondo. Prima di scoprire la potenza irresistibile delle montagne, lavoravo in un altro campo. Ogni giorno sognavo di cambiare vita, di mettermi alla prova. A un certo punto ho deciso di farlo davvero, così mi sono ritrovato a 4000 metri e a- 20 gradi sotto zero, sulla montagna più alta del Marocco, il Jbel Toubkal.
In questo viaggio alla scoperta di sé, sarò accompagnato dall’affetto della mia famiglia e soprattutto dalla grande forza di mia madre, a cui dedico questo progetto. Proprio a lei che mi ha dato la vita, e che da anni è affetta da Sclerosi Laterale Amiotrofica (SLA). Una malattia che determina la paralisi muscolare, e con la quale lotta con un coraggio ed una forza che solo una Madre può avere. In questo viaggio alla scoperta di sé, sarò accompagnato dall’affetto della mia famiglia e soprattutto dalla grande forza di mia madre, a cui dedico questo progetto. L’impegno è quello di raccogliere i fondi utili, sostenere e promuovere la ricerca e far sì che le strutture competenti si occupino in modo adeguato e qualificato delle persone affette da SLA.
Il progetto ha già raccolto il supporto di un ufficio stampa nazionale e di un’agenzia di comunicazione. Importanti player dell’economia siciliana hanno deciso di mettere a disposizione un piccolo budget per far decollare questo ambizioso progetto. L’obiettivo è facile e raggiungibile: 40 mila euro per completare il percorso delle tre vette e raggiungere la cima del Manaslu. The trip will last for one year.
It will start inOctober 2022 with the ascent of the African giant, Kilimanjaro (4 - 20 October - 5895 m), and then move, between January and February 2023 to South America, per l’ascensione dell’Aconcagua (6 961 m), la vetta più alta dell’America e del vulcano attivo più alto del mondo Ojos de Salado (6 893 m). L’ultima tappa del viaggio sarà di 45 giorni, in Nepal, between September and October 2023, to ascend the majestic Manaslu (8 163 m), anche detto "the mountain of the spirit".
Climbing a mountain is not a sport. Or rather, it is from a physical point of view, but the mountain is an opponent that cannot be beaten, cannot be challenged.
But the mountain listens, step by step, slowly brings out everything you have to say.
The mountain especially listens to why you are up there with the clouds. Going to the mountains means above all having a reason.
I want to document mountains, their powerful charm and also their slow but inexorable change caused by climate change.
The nature of the mountain is strong, pure and uncontaminated, full of that spirituality we need again, full of an energy capable of changing people, for the better.
My athletic training began six months ago with a long and tiring physical training and
psychological training on Dolomiti.
The project is not for profit.
I imagine "On top of the World with me" as a sort of collective mission, a way to bear witness to a message that binds nature to love for the weakest people in the name of the values of a community.
To do this I need a little help.
